Still need to swap out that oil pan. I spent a good part of the weekend under it and I can say with some certitude that the keyboard mechanics in most forums are either idiots or masochists. There is no way to do this job without separating the trans, pulling the upper intake and removing the Y pipe completely from the truck.

If I’m going to partially pull the engine, why not pull it all the way? This is where I get stuck. Why go through all this work to drop a stock 190ish horsepower engine back in there?

First.. Crusty isn’t as crusty as I make it seem. I bought it in November of 2014 for $850 with 133,xxx miles and have run it very reliably 158,6xx since. I’ve put wheels/tires, a battery and new front shock towers, shocks and springs on it. The PO replaced the rear spring hangers, shocks and all of the U joints as well. The Blue velour interior is one good detail away from looking like new, which I love.

So here’s what I’m thinking.

I have a 351w short block with forged flat top pistons in storage. It needs all of the ancillaries (front cover, distributor, pullies, etc), a cam, heads and an intake. With the right parts I can reliably make 380-390hp and 400+ torques. Yes, exhaust is going to be pricey as is a torque converter. But I think I can actually pull it off for around $2500.

Am I taking a daydream too far?

I really like the sound of that.

But that’s a serious commitment. How serious is the oil leak right now and how soon could you have the 351W ready?

Love the color combo (esp w/blue interior) and the 351W idea. But that rust man. Oh man all that rust. Yikes.

If you’ve got the time and can afford to spend the money, why not?

but the question is really whether you love crusty enough to dump $$2500$$ in it. that will be a nice 351 to put together. it should push around whatever you put it in pretty good.

dont misunderstand me, i own junk. its fun. ive dumped plenty of money in it. and i enjoy driving the junk. i know ill never get the money back out of it if i go to sell it, which i wouldnt(sell).

find something youll enjoy, build THAT.

in the here to there you can get everything put together in krusty, then put it in something else.

drive your daydreams as far as theyll stay running. then push them some more

You are, and I like it

But I thought you weren’t thinking about putting more time and money into the trusty rusty?

I wasn’t into dumping money into it. But it’s been so damn reliable and Notchback Mustangs are so damn expensive.. Why not do a “Farm Truck” type of build?

And then we can race pickups!

Sounds like a good idea. No reason you couldn't rebuild the current motor and swap it back in later if you find a better use for the built one.

It might seem pointless. Because it is. That’s why I stopped messing with cars several years ago.

Now? I want to have some fun and screw with people.

Heck we could do that now. I’ll put three 3 wheelers up against that Celica.

Kinja has been particularly bad today. I haven’t seen it this bad since... gosh, at least a week or so.

Shit, I’m not about to hand you the Celica. You’ll have to settle for beer instead of my title.

yeah, its entirely pointless. so long as youre having fun with it though, keep after it.

Was it Kinja in 2008? I don’t remember issues back then.

Anyhow.. I can have the Long block ready by early April. One part I need and cannot justify the price on is a 1993-95 Lightning intake. $500 just for the lower? Bite me!

On my watch list. I bet it goes for $450 or better.

You’re probably right... It has a lot of bids, and a lot of time left.

That’s what kills me. Then I go and search Zoidberg’s neighborhood for trucks and damn! Crusty goes out the window and I want to try shipping trucks from WA to the Upper Midwest.

Hey I have a plumbing question if you don’t mind me picking your brain. At my job we have 2 kitchens for staff, in one of our kitchens water out of the faucet sometimes comes out blue-ish green and when it doesn’t it tastes like metal or oil even after going through a brita filter.

This started happening recently and I haven’t drank the water since (I bring it from home now), any idea what the heck is the problem? Plumbers are expected to come today to fix an unrelated toilet issue but I may ask them to check out the sink.

It’s weird that only one kitchen does it. Blue-Green is a sign of corrosion in the piping somewhere. It could be from an excess of flux in the lines from a bad install or it could be a bad connection between dissimilar piping. (The coloring is actually copper diluting in the water) The metallic or oily taste makes me think there is a big glob of flux paste somewhere in the line causing trouble.

I would get a water test kit from the hardware store and see what comes up. The lines may just need to be flushed for a while to get the gunk out of there.

Coincidentally it started happening much more frequently after we had a sprinkler in our lobby burst. I’ll try to convince the job to think about buying a test kit. The main kitchen I assume doesn’t experience this issue because it is used much more often than the auxiliary kitchen.

When this issue started I let the water in the sink run for about 15 mins on full blast and I replaced the brita filter the water was clear (a little cloudy) but still kept that oily metallic taste. All I did was take a tiny sip and dumped it since I don’t want to grow another arm.

What’s it have in it now, the 300 6?

If so, you turbocharge it. They’re indestructible, and you can reliably get 300 hp and 450 torques out of it with stock internals.

I kinda wish it had the 300. I love those engines. This one’s a 5.0. At least it has the 351 firing order and roller cam.

It’s not too bad. Now that it’s minus one Cat Con and has a new Fauxmaster 2 chamber it sounds great and even moves a bit better.
